Ever wanted to visit a friend, or taste your favorite food, but only, they was across water and impossible to visit without a boat? Residents around Iseo Lake, Italy, are in for a treat for 16 days, that is if the weather permits as they have been gifted with a temporary bridge to travel to different parts of the lake. The Floating Piers is a work of art from the renowned Christo, of The Gates fame, where he along with wife Jeanne Claude, installed 7503 panels of fabric around New York’s Central Park. Christo has now taken things to the next level by making it possible to walk on water in this Italian Lake. The 3 km walkway, made out of fabric, is free for all to use and even extends onto the streets of Peschiera Maraglio and Sulzano for about 1.5k km, and covers a mansion located in the middle of the lake as well. He plans to recycle the fabric on completion of the 16 days.
Christo is a renowned artist, and funds all of his projects himself, through the sale of his other works of art. Hats off to Christo, what better way for an artist to use the world as his canvas?
